YOUTH & NEW GRADS

Career Design & Growth Strategies

So many clients I work with, of all ages, often express frustration that they weren't taught enough in high school and/or college/university about what kinds of careers are out there, how they align to their interests and then how to navigate and drive that career forward.

Unfortunately, not all college and university degrees are created equal when it comes to getting jobs afterwards. And the debt so many young people are facing only adds to their stress as they launch into adult life. Which often creates pressure for their parents, as well, as they try to assist both financially and emotionally.

That's where working with a Career Consultant is useful BEFORE and DURING the post- secondary education process. Most often I begin by doing an assessment to match your (or your child's, if you're a parent) interests, talents and skills to an educational program that will suit them now ... and in the future.

And I take pride in acting as a realistic as well as encouraging force as we carve the stone that -- with time and effort -- will reveal a career-skills pathway that has the potential to be both satisfying and rewarding.  As with all careers, there are never guarantees, but I believe self-knowledge is the best foundation, especially when it comes to making well-informed and actionable decisions; since careers, like life, are better viewed as a journey than a single destination.

Then we work on a plan to also make the best use of time spent while still in school and right after.

And sometimes the path isn't towards university or college, but to a poly-technical, trades or on-the-job training. Even artists and creative types can make great livings these days but it doesn't necessarily mean going to school to get the skills they need to get great jobs.

And some of the new ways of working -- while they may not be ideal -- can be a great fit for the right person, and allow them to thrive while making a good to even great living!

*FIRST HALF HOUR FREE consults apply more to exploratory sessions to determine if we are a good fit for one of my longer term coaching packages, resume reinvention, job search and re-design, etc. Single instructional sessions with clear goals, such as interview prep, or previous EAP clients who have had numerous sessions with me already, may not be eligible for this special offer.

URGENT RESUMES:  I'm writing less resumes these days but am still open to considering it as a separate, stand-alone service in tandem with clients' career coaching packages. Also happy to talk to past clients for whom I created their resumes and may need some upgrades/changes. Working in depth with a client IS the secret sauce behind what makes my techniques so successful in reinventing them on paper in a way that employers "get".  Career change more often than not requires a brand new approach to writing a resume as it must align even more closely to the target employment goal than a typical resume upgrade for a job in a client's current field.  However, the closer your old job/career is to your new direction, "usually" the easier it is to refocus and target the new resume(s).
